Saving Homes Saving Neighborhoods
Saving Homes/Saving Neighborhoods (SH/SN) is a foreclosure prevention and neighborhood stabilization initiative facilitated by the Urban Affairs Coalition, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Delaware Valley (CCCSDV), The Reinvestment Fund (TRF) and Community Legal Services (CLS), focusing in West Oak Lane and Southwest Philadelphia. The overall goal of the program is to increase the economic stability of targeted neighborhoods by identifying residents who can benefit from housing counseling and other financial supports prior to financial crisis. By providing services to a household before it faces a serious financial emergency, SH/SN helps the family avoid the foreclosure process altogether. The program addresses the impact of predatory lenders directly by working in the neighborhoods on a grass roots level to link residents to free help and non-predatory options.
In the first two years of operation, the program focused on 15,000 households. SH/SN reached over 3,600 residents through its door-to-door and community outreach efforts and provided 1,700 with additional housing counseling and other services.
