Urban Apps and Map Studios Summer Program

May 17, 2013

Urban Apps and Maps Studio is offering a six week internship program at Temple University for students ages 14-22. UAC’s Director of Government & Strategic Partnerships, Arun Prabhakaran, represents the Coalition on the Urban Apps and Maps Steering Committee which advises this initiative. Urban Apps and Maps Studio is an innovative program which offers a chance for students to use technology to help solve community problems. The program will give students an opportunity to create digital content in addition to teaching them design and business skills.

The Summer Digital Community Leadership Program confronts issues such as crime, health access, blight, and lack of resources within urban communities. Previously they have created projects such as Philadelphia Urban Farming Association to target vacant land by devising a service to build an agricultural business and the Urban Health Warriors App to improve the maintenance of health conditions specifically diabetes and hypertension.

Some of Urban Apps and Maps Studio other activities include AT&T Temple Edutech Hackathon, an annual competition to encourage design and entrepreneurship and Design Challenge, an annual competition focusing on solutions for the North Broad Community of Philadelphia.

The program operates from July 1-August 8, Monday-Thursday, 10am-3pm. For more information visit appsnmaps.temple.edu
