Urban Affairs Coalition welcomes Wells Fargo’s Joseph Kirk to UAC Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA – The Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) is thrilled to announce that Joseph Kirk, Wells Fargo’s Greater Philadelphia Region Bank President, has been elected to the UAC’s Board of Directors, which has a membership of 40 business and community leaders.

Each board member is dedicated to UAC’s three priorities: to improve life chances for youth and young adults; build wealth in urban communities; and strengthen the nonprofit sector. UAC values diversity in board membership, while working to strengthen the board leadership pipeline for the next generation of community leaders. Each board member is committed to driving change from the ground up, as demonstrated through their continued service in our communities.

Kirk brings 39 years of expertise in the financial services sector to the UAC Board of Directors.  He also served in various leadership roles at Wells Fargo predecessor banks Wachovia, First Fidelity and Howard Savings Bank.  Kirk has also served on the Boards of the American Red Cross of Greater New York, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, Theatre Forward, and God’s Love We Deliver.

“One of the things I value most deeply is teamwork. No one person or entity can solve greater Philadelphia’s largest issues by themselves,” said Kirk. “What drew me to the UAC is their ability to unite public and private groups and get everyone moving in the same direction. That’s how you solve problems and that is what makes the UAC so vital to this region.”

"Joe's business expertise and outstanding leadership qualities make him a terrific addition to UAC's board,” said Jim Mergiotti, Chair of the UAC Board of Directors. “He joins us as we approach a major milestone in celebrating our 50th anniversary and prepare UAC for the next generation.  The board and administration could not be more pleased to welcome Joe at this important time in our evolution."

For the past ten years, Wells Fargo has helped thousands of individuals through its support of UAC’s Community Economic Development (CED) Program, Capture Greatness, Global Citizen 365, The Black Writers Museum, Teenshop Inc., Summer Youth Employment Program, and Warmth in Winter. Wells Fargo representatives also serve on UAC board committees and the bank supports the UAC Anniversary Breakfast.

“UAC is proud to expand the special relationship we have with Wells Fargo as we enter our 50th year of service in the community,” said UAC President and CEO Sharmain Matlock-Turner. “Joe brings a wealth of board-service experience and a deep commitment to the community as a leader and center of influence. We are excited that Joe is a part of the UAC Family, and we are ready to put his talents and dedication to work, driving change from the ground up.”

UAC is a 49-year-old organization that unites government, nonprofit, for-profit, and individuals to improve the quality of life in the region.  Celebrating its 50th anniversary in November 2019, UAC is proud to highlight how lasting partnerships, like the one with Wells Fargo, has helped shape the mission and its impact in the Greater Philadelphia region over the past 50 years.
