Urban Affairs Coalition welcomes Duane “DJ” Thornton as Vice President, Development and Strategic Partnerships

 

PHILADELPHIA - The Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) is pleased to announce the hire of Duane “DJ” Thornton as Vice President, Development and Strategic Partnerships. As VP of Development and Strategic Partnerships, and member of the executive management team, DJ will lead and manage a four-part portfolio: Advancement, Marketing/Communications, Board Development, and Fundraising. He will also provide strategic direction and overall supervision of the Development and Strategic Partnerships unit, which includes a Director, Manager, Coordinator, and group of strategic partners.

DJ is a seasoned fund development and organizational leader with more than 15 years of progressive experience in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. He began his career with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and Corus Home Realty, spending over a decade in roles of increasing responsibility in marketing, market research, and high-level team management, including service as a Branch Manager for Citizens Bank. He continued his executive experience - as President and Executive Director at the Presidents’ Council and the Presidents’ Council Foundation and Vice-President, Development at the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) - before building and operating a successful nonprofit-consulting company. Most recently, DJ served as Director, Corporate Partnerships at the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, achieving annual revenue goals of more than $13.5M.

DJ has deep experience in technical and tactical development tools and strategy, and he brings a wealth of management and leadership experience. He has also served on several nonprofit boards, and has a history of giving back to the community. DJ earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Virginia. He earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Saint Joseph’s University.

DJ assumed the VP of Development and Strategic Partnerships position officially on Monday May 20, 2019. Please join UAC in welcoming him to the UAC team.
