Philadelphia, PA -- August 9, 2019 -- The Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) will celebrate the end of their 2019 Summer Youth Employment program with a closing ceremony on Friday, August 16, 2019, 8:30AM – 12:00PM at the First District Plaza, 3801 Market Street.

The morning will kick off with a Stakeholders’ Breakfast and Press Conference from 8:30AM - 9:30AM. Remarks will be given by Urban Affairs Coalition President & CEO Sharmain Matlock-Turner, 6ABC Producer Nikki Hawkins, Philadelphia Youth Network President & CEO Chekemma Fulmore-Townsend, Philadelphia Works President & CEO Patrick Clancy, Superintendent Dr. William Hite, and Mayor Jim Kenney.

The youth celebration will begin at 9:30AM with a Student Project Expo themed, “Rising Above the Influence.” The student projects explore healthy coping mechanisms and drug prevention awareness. The expo will be followed by comedy, music, dance performances, and special remarks given by Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes. The Celebration is scheduled to end at 12:00PM.

The Urban Affairs Coalition’s Summer Youth Employment Program places youth ages 14 to 18 in paid summer jobs and internships through Philadelphia’s WorkReady Program. UAC is the largest, non-city provider for the WorkReady Philadelphia Program. This year, UAC served over 1,000 youth - many of whom are new to the workforce - successfully complete their summer jobs and internships.
