#PartnerTuesdays: Teenshop, Inc.

March 11, 2014

UAC Program Partner Teenshop, Inc. empowers 'girls with goals' to become caring, courageous leaders and change agents in their communities and beyond. Teenshop, Inc. mentors young girls ages 13-18 and teaches them to become the future leaders of tomorrow. Teenshop promotes academic excellence and leadership through a series of workshops, field trips, college tours, and community service projects.

More than 125 girls enroll annually to the Teenshop program and all graduates go on to attend college or professional schools. Teenshop currently has three chapters in Philadelphia and one located in Los Angeles, California.

Teenshop’s annual Residential College Prep Summer Program for Rising Senior Scholars is held on the campus of Bryn Mawr College. The College Prep Program is a two-week experience that provides participants with leadership training and helps prepare students for success in college and life.

Every year, Teenshop hosts the annual Women’s History Month Leadership Luncheon to celebrate the outstanding achievements of young girls and women. The luncheon includes a surprise Mother of Distinction Award for outstanding chapter support, and recognition of participants in their voluntary essay contest. The top three winners receive scholarships and trophies, and all contestants receive certificates. On Saturday, March 15 Teenshop will honor Project Runway Season 12 Winner Dominique Streater and Lynette Brown-Sow, Vice President of Marketing and Government Relations, Community College of Philadelphia.
