#PartnerTuesdays: Opportunities-PA

February 18, 2014

UAC Program Partner OPPORTUNITIES-PA is a nonprofit organization that Educates, Equips, Empowers, and Encourages homeless and other at-risk youth to reach their academic potential and  professional goals by offering them supportive services and stable housing.  Opportunities-PA provides life coaching, mentoring, career counseling, and educational support to youth ages 18-25.

Opportunities-PA offers two programs: Project Connection and the Self-Sufficiency Program. Through Project Connection, Opportunities-PA partners with local shelters and other nonprofit organizations to identify individuals who could benefit from mentoring, career counseling, and one-on-one coaching. The Self-Sufficiency program is available to students after completing Project Connection. The Self-Sufficiency Program provides students with secure stable housing.

Opportunities-PA’s Adopt-a-Student Project provides students with furniture and school materials before they begin their first semester in college. By adopting a student, you reward and encourage a formerly homeless teen to continue his or her journey to become independent and attain a college degree.

Looking to volunteer? Opportunities-PA offers a variety of ways to get involved. On Saturday, March 15th Opportunities-PA will host a speed mentoring program.  Speed Mentoring exposes residents to different career occupations and encourages them to set short and long term goals to reach their career aspirations. Volunteers are needed to encourage and provide supportive advice to homeless youth.
