Neighborhood Education Workshop Wins Five Trophies in Robotics Competition

May 21, 2013

Competing in the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center (MATE) Pennsylvania Regional ROV Challenge at Villanova University, a team of seven talented students from Neighborhood Education Workshop (NEW), a Program Partner of UAC, built an underwater roving machine, taking home five trophies, including 1st place for Communication and Presentation and 3rd place for Spirit and Sportsmanship.

NEW’s mission is to provide students with different educational opportunities, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) learning, to be better prepared for their futures. NEW takes students to events, like the MATE Center’s ROV Challenge, to gain valuable hands-on experience and connect with educators and professionals in industry.

Programs like these are important for young people because they expose them to an array of career paths as well as encourage critical thinking and problem solving in fresh, innovative ways while planting the seeds of entrepreneurship as students are asked to think about how they will manufacture, market, and sell the products they create.

Congratulations to the NEW team on their great accomplishment!
