Program Summary: 
SELF, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has been providing services to people for over twenty (20) years. We offer a broad range of essential housing, social service, drug and alcohol treatment, vocational and employment programs, all designed to help individuals achieve self-sufficient and productive lifestyles. We provide these services to more than 7,000 individuals within the Philadelphia area. Winter Initiative is a seasonal program that will operate from December 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Successful applicants may be assigned to work any day(s) throughout the seven (7) day week and are expected to report to work their scheduled shifts including holidays and during inclement weather conditions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Complete routine facility checks before assuming responsibility and thoroughly document deficiencies on the shift report form during the shift change. • Participation in general staff meetings, department meetings and training as required. • Review prior shift incident reports and communication log book prior to starting shift work. • Alert prior shift to make corrections/ completion of duties before you assume responsibility for the facility. • Document noteworthy information (negative or positive) on shift report form. • Ensure all needed supplies are on hand for shift. • Monitor electronic surveillance equipment used on the premises. • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, program participants, and visitors to safeguard and maintain the premises. • Comply with the privacy standards as it relates to the collection, maintenance and use of protected personal information recorded. • Flexibly cooperate with emergency requests, changes in work schedule or assignment. • Check and secure fire doors and escape exits, tour building and secure every 30-60 minutes during shift and document as required. • Monitor participant activities including but not limited to body search with metal detector upon entrance to the facility, searches of resident sleeping quarters and storage locker/bags/containers. • Immediately inform supervisor of any unusual incidents concerning participants, building or staff and complete appropriate documentation. • Complete reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as contraband, equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. • May be required to lift, carry, hold, and/or distribute materials and supplies that weigh 25-50 lbs. • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a combination of acceptable training and experience in human services including but not limited to homelessness, substance abuse and mental health. • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend and lift supplies that weigh between 25-50 lbs. • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, tasks-driven and able to work independently and set daily priorities. • Must be able to provide constructive feedback to shift leader or designee in order to improve services within the facility. • Must visually observe, hear, understand, and interpret participant behavior. • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and willingness to assist whenever needed. • Must be competent in computer use including Microsoft applications and internet. • Must be competent in computer use including Microsoft applications and internet. • Criminal and Child Abuse clearance will be required. EXPERIENCE: Past security experience strongly desired. Experience working the human service filed with individuals who may have challenges in the following areas: homelessness, substance abuse and mental health or an acceptable combination of equivalent skills and experience is strongly desired.
