Program Summary: 
Self, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has been providing services to people for over twenty (20) years. We offer a broad range of essential housing, social service, drug and alcohol treatment, vocational and employment programs, all designed to help individuals achieve self-sufficient and productive lifestyles. We provide these services to more than 7,000 individuals within the Philadelphia area. Winter Initiative is a seasonal program that will operate from December 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Successful applicants may be assigned to work any day(s) throughout the seven (7) day week and are expected to report to work their scheduled shifts including holidays and during inclement weather conditions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide transportation for program including but not limited to transporting program participants and program supplies. • Participation in general staff meetings, department meetings and training as required. • Flexibly cooperate with emergency requests, changes in work schedule or assignment. • Comply with the privacy standards as it relates to the collection, maintenance and use of protected personal information recorded. • Follow all traffic laws when operating organization vehicles so that the safety of the participants, staff and other vehicle operators are sustained. • Prepare and complete vehicle log so that all maintenance needs are noted to ensure the vehicle is safe and ready for use. • Maintain constant surveillance of participants while transporting to protect them and others while in transport to destination. • Assist with arranging for vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle in clean and serviceable condition and perform minor maintenance tasks. This includes checking general physical condition, all fluid levels, tires, lights and related equipment to insure road worthy operation. Report all findings to supervisor in writing weekly. • Physically inspect vehicle(s) before and after each use to ensure contraband is not being transported. • Immediately report the finding of any contraband to the Assistant Program Manager. • Maintain proper communication regarding participant whereabouts by telephoning program to notify arrivals and departures at destinations. • Notify supervisor and Winter Initiative team members of route/schedule changes. • Carry roster in the vehicle containing the names, destination and number of participants to be transported and complete a roll call to ensure all participants are transported. • Comply with program safety rules; take appropriate corrective action to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and without injury to self and others. • Plan, coordinate and adjust routes to facilitate delivery requirements. • Provide timely receipts for fuel, oil, coolant, etc. and maintain accurate mileage records. • May be required to lift, carry, hold, and/or distribute materials and supplies that weigh 25-50 lbs. • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
QUALIFICATIONS: • Minimum of one (1) years of experience operating a large size motor vehicle. • Must be able to observe participants while driving and prepare for emergencies as needed. • Must visually observe, hear, understand, and interpret participant behavior. • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend and lift supplies that weigh between 25-50 lbs. • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, tasks-driven and able to work independently and set daily priorities. • Must have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record without open moving violations. • Criminal, Child Abuse and clearance are required. • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required. EXPERIENCE: Must have qualifying experience driving and operating a large size passenger motor vehicle. Experience working the human service filed with individuals who may have challenges in the following areas: homelessness, substance abuse and mental health or an acceptable combination of equivalent skills and experience is strongly desired. May be required to lift, carry, hold, and/or distribute materials and supplies that weigh 25-50 lbs.
