Position Summary: 

Galaei, a queer latinx health and social justice organization and program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition is currently looking for an individual to fill the position of Coach/Recruiter.  The SOY project of Galaei’s youth program is targeted to provide one on one coaching for queer and trans youth of color ages 13-18. The one on one coaching provides support for youth in the areas of educational support, employment, sexual health and identity, conflict resolution and mental health advocacy.

Salary & Benefits: 
Part Time position- 20 hours, $17 per hour, some evenings & weekends required
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

● Primary responsibility is to conduct outreach and recruitment with an emphasis on queer and trans youth of color

● Establish appropriate collaborative relationships with local community based organizations (CBO), schools and social services providers

● Provide direct coaching sessions to youth enrolled in SOY project

● Responsible for a portion of the caseload of 25 unduplicated youth per quarter, 100 unduplicated per grant cycle

● Maintain client charts including documentation of all delivered services and sessions conducted

● Complete quarterly and annual work plans

● Participate in organization wide events

● Make referrals as needed

● Responsible for occasional local travel as needed by clients

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

● High School diploma or GED equivalent and/or relevant work experience

● Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

● Experience working with LGBTQ youth of color (desired)

● Knowledge of psychosocial issues related to youth risk behavior including sexual and substance abuse

● Knowledge of sexuality, homophobia, gender identity and expression and other issues relating to LGBTQ youths- as well as how these issues impact the overall development of youth;

● Must be able to work with diverse populations of people and prove effective outreach to the target population;

● Must be able to work individually and as part of a team, demonstrate mutual respect for coworkers and be committed to working from a sex positive and social, racial and economic justice perspective;

● Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to facilitate groups;

● Must be highly organized, able to work under pressure, dynamic, creative and self motivated;

● Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to take initiative in carrying out tasks to conclusion;

● Must be experienced with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

*position is contracted for one fiscal year with refunding contingent upon funding availability*
