Position Summary: 

Under supervision of a Prevention Navigator, the Assistant Prevention Navigator is responsible for ensuring that HIV negative African American Men who have sex with men (MSM) assigned a caseload are provided high quality services. Duties include, but are not limited to, following up on referrals made to services, assisting clients with PrEP adherence, accompanying clients to scheduled  medical and other social services appointments, as well as maintaining contact with clients throughout the duration of navigation services. The Assistant Prevention Navigator provides practical, educational, and emotional assistance to clients on their caseload.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Knowledgeable of basic client management procedures for determining eligibility, assessing needs, identifying resources, making referrals, follow up, and documenting client interactions;
  • Ability to maintain appropriate and professional judgment in regard to interactions with clients;
  • Able to travel and meet clients in and around assigned geographic area using public transportation;
  • Able to effectively interview and engage a client in appropriate programing; and able to work within a team structure- demonstrating ability to collaborate and contribute to the team’s overall goals. 
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge and familiarity with cultural competent models of care for Black and Latino MSM;
  • Knowledge of HIV treatment and prevention;
  • Understanding of issues facing Black and Latino MSM at high risk of HIV, including structural barriers to receiving health and social services;
  • Knowledge of resources in Philadelphia, including educational, behavioral health and health insurance providers;
  • Familiarity with client confidentiality
  • Be certified to provide HIV testing and counseling
  • Driver’s License preferred 

Education

  • BSW or equivalent preferred, with experience working with the target population
