Program Summary: 
While often viewed as a city and region on the rise, Philadelphia still ranks high in too many critical, key areas. Philadelphia’s poverty rate is the highest of the top 10 U.S. cities, at 25.7 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and Pennsylvania Department of Labor statistics measures the unemployment rate at nearly 6 percent, significantly higher than the national average. At the same time, employers in Philadelphia need talent to fill thousands of open roles. We believe that employers have a key role to play in creating opportunities and offer an important voice to inform workforce development efforts to connect opportunity seekers to employment opportunities. To address the needs of Philadelphians and the needs of local employers, the Hire! Philly Coalition was founded in 2018 to align the assets, interests, and advocacy of local employers to provide a united perspective on regional workforce opportunities and connect Philadelphians to economic opportunities. The intent of this employer-led initiative is to tackle some of Philadelphia’s toughest workforce challenges through collaboration.
Position Summary: 
Hire! Philly Coalition, a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition, is currently looking for a part-time Executive Director (ED). The Hire! Philly ED will lead this first-of-its kind employer-led coalition in Philadelphia, comprised of many of the largest employers in the region who are committed to providing employment opportunities and career pathways to underserved opportunity seekers in the region. Reporting to the Hire! Philly Advisory Board, the ED will manage the day-to-day operations of the initiative and engage Coalition members in executing the Coalition vision.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
The ED’s Scope of Work includes the following:
  • Implement Coalition Vision, Strategy, and Goals. Execute the initiative’s strategy in the areas of (1) aligning workforce initiatives (2) sharing best practices, and (3) hiring opportunity seekers;
  • Lead Coalition Stakeholder Engagement. Be the main point of contact for the coalition with key public, private and social sector stakeholder. Represent Coalition interests and perspective with key stakeholders and conduct Coalition operations on behalf of the Coalition members;
  
  • Coordinate Companies. Coordinate the alignment of employer members for perspectives on workforce issues, and field and identify opportunities for the Coalition to weigh in on key issues. Amplify innovative workforce approaches by member including events and partnerships;
  • Employer Membership Recruiting and Engagement. Develop a comprehensive employer engagement program, including organizing employer meetings and convenings, connecting employers to share best practices, and engaging companies at job and resource fairs and other events. Support recruitment and onboarding of new member companies, and fulfil membership fees and benefits;
  • Plan and Execute Annual Job and Resource Fair. In collaboration with Coalition partners across Philadelphia, plan annual signature event. Activate member companies’ individual hiring engines and engage workforce and nonprofit partners;
  • Communications. Coordinate with the Advisory Board and PR assets to implement the overall narrative and strategic communications. Develop and share periodic updates on the coalition with key stakeholders. Represent the Initiative as a key, but not exclusive, spokesperson;
  • Administration & Oversight. Oversee the Initiative’s organizational needs, including operating budget, recruitment, supervision, and training other Initiative employees, reporting to the executive committee, and conducting Initiative reporting and analytics;
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or other relevant Master’s Degree preferred;
  • Proven experience leading employer-led campaigns, coalitions, and/or organizations;
  • 10+ years of experience work on employment strategies, workforce development and or employment practices, corporate experience preferred;
  • Results-driven executive with a proven track record in developing and executing strategic partnerships;
  • Exceptional strategic planning and organizational management skills, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience planning and executing large scale events;
  • Extensive working knowledge of employment HR and social impact practices, workforce; HR systems and potential barriers to employment for vulnerable populations;
  • Ability to coordinate resources, develop content and deliver exceptional convenings that provide relevant, meaningful content for employers to take action and make change;
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations;
  • Proven ability to work independently in a start-up environment and pace;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
