Position Summary: 
The Marketing & Communications Manager is a highly strategic and essential position within the Urban Affairs Coalition’s Development & Strategic Partnerships Unit. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and quality of all facets of UAC marketing and communications, and ensure consistent alignment with UAC’s Brand and Core Values. Specifically, the Marketing & Communications Manager will work with the Development & Strategic Partnerships unit to optimize Services & Product Marketing, Social Media/Community Communication, Client & Partnership Communications, Donor & Funder Communication, and Internal & External Marketing and Communications. The Manager will also staff the UAC Marketing Committee, providing support to UAC’s content leadership who drive three main goals congruent with UAC’s Strategic Plan: 1- Increase Brand Awareness; 2 – Drive New Business; 3 – Maximize Customer Retention. The ideal candidate will be proactive, creative, and organized. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, with excellent writing, technical skills, and attention to detail. A highly tactical position, the ideal candidate will possess strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. This individual would report to the Director of External Affairs. UAC Development & Strategic Partnerships (DSP) is charged with raising $1 million per year in general operation support, cultivating $8M of new business in FY2019, managing the 40 member board of directors, strategy internal and external communications and media strategies, and leading a complex, transformational organization-wide strategic plan. The department also includes a Vice President, Director, Coordinator, and group of key consultants for outsourced support.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
Services & Product MarketingIn coordination with the DSP unit and Brand Refresh Firm, educate both internal and external stakeholders about UAC products and services, including their features and benefits.
  • Assist Director to create sales enablement documentation, case studies, videos, website copy, blog posts, whitepapers, ebooks, reports, webinars, infographics (etc.), to articulate the benefits of UAC services and products to universal and targeted audiences
  • Assist Director to measure and optimize the marketing funnel for UAC’s products and services
  • Assist Director to establish and collect closed-loop analytics to understand how marketing activity drives new business, and continually refine UAC’s process to increase brand awareness
  • Build and manage a rich content/editorial calendar for sustained and nimble inbound and outbound marketing
  • Optimize marketing automation and lead nurturing processes through email, content, and social channels
  • On occasion, speak and present both internally and externally to promote the story of UAC and its products and services
Social Media/Community CommunicationIn coordination with the DSP unit, manage the UAC’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and additional channels that may be deemed relevant.
  • Create shareable content appropriate for specific networks to spread both the UAC brand and content
  • Monitor and engage in relevant social platform discussions; run regular, scheduled, social campaigns, and track their success, when necessary
  • Work alongside the UAC Partnerships Services & Engagement unit to help distribute and amplify UAC Program Partner content to all of UAC’s audiences
  • Drive consistent, relevant traffic and leads from our social network presence; explore new ways to engage and reach our target audiences
  • Track, measure, and analyze all initiatives to report on social media ROI
Client & Partnership CommunicationsIn coordination with the DSP unit and the Partnerships Services & Engagement unit, create and distribute relevant content that educates and entertains UAC’s audience and supports marketing goals.
  • Assist Director in strategies to organically grow UAC’s email list
  • Assist Director to segment lists based on behaviors, measure results, minimize list unsubscribes, optimize Client & Partnership mass-communications, and increase email productivity
  • Assist Director to develop documentation and road maps for processes, A/B tests, and campaign promotions that succeed through email
  • Manage various email campaigns, including the template designs and content used
  • Create presentation decks, as assigned
  • Develop, maintain, and update content for the UAC’s family of websites and sub-sites
  • Maintain UAC website with current and accurate information in a clear and accessible format
Other Internal & External Marketing and CommunicationsDonor & Funder CommunicationIn coordination with the DSP and Fiscal units, support UAC’s corporate and funder communications including: 1 – Ensure quality and timely donor/funder communications (“thank you” notifications, end-of-year notifications, and annual report distributions); 2 – Create relevant content like press releases, announcements, and creative content, as neededPR, Media, Event RelationsSupport Director to: 1 – connect with media outlets/journalists to place stories about UAC news and other initiatives; 2 – support event planning, including working with vendors and event coordinatorsBoard Development & Relations1 – Staff the UAC Marketing & Communications Committee and support UAC’s execution of key elements of the UAC Marketing Plan; 2 – Support Director in staffing the Friends of the Coalition; 3 – Support DSP unit in staffing the UAC Board of Directors, as needed
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
Education and Work Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Marketing, Communication, or Liberal Arts field with demonstrable marketing and communication experience and proficiency (English; History, etc.); Business Administration; Public Administration
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a for-profit, public, or nonprofit environment
  • OR a combination of education and hands on experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively perform the duties described above
  • Strong project management experience and administrative support experience with proven ability to take initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and skill, customer service oriented
  • Track record of completing projects and achieve goals on time, while delivering high quality results
  • Desire to work in the nonprofit sector, in pursuit of growth opportunities and career advancement
