Position Summary: 
The Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) is currently looking for a Human Resources Intern to assist with the Summer Youth Employment (SYE) for UAC’s Summer Youth Program from April until the end of August. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for supporting the SYE Program in the hiring of staff to support and place approximately 1400 youth in summer jobs throughout the Philadelphia area. This includes: recruitment, new hire orientation, background clearances, etc.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
Provide human resources/administrative support to the SYE Program in the following areas;
  • Assist with the recruitment of staff. This includes posting the positions on the UAC website, as well as other employment websites, conduct new hire orientations, and background clearances;
  • Ensure all new hires have background checks completed, maintain an accurate spreadsheet of clearance status and complete files of background check results;
  • Create and maintain a spreadsheet and other tracking systems to streamline the process of receiving resumes, conducting interviews, and making hires;
  • Schedule meetings, trainings, and employment interviews as requested;
  • Assist staff with HR-related issues such as reminders to complete timesheets and assisting with all necessary paperwork;
  • Provide assistance with the program management and special events as needed;
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
  • Ability to handle HR issues/concerns in a discreet and confidential manner;
  • Must be willing to learn the ADP Time & Attendance;
  • Must have excellent oral/written communication skills, excellent customer service skills, be detailed-oriented, and creative;
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of staff and youth in a professional manner;
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Must be able to type, proofread letters, and input data in the computer system with a high level of accuracy;
  • Must have an outgoing personality, be flexible, and can work independently and in a team environment.
  • An Associates’ Degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred;
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in a human resources/administrative environment;
  • Experience in database management;
  • Ability to multi-task.
