Program Summary: 

SELF, is a non-profit organization that has been providing services to some of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable communities for over 30 years. SELF offers a broad range of essential housing, social service, drug and alcohol treatment, vocational, and employment programs with the goal of supporting individuals achieve self-sufficiency and sustain healthier lives (or improve their quality of life). SELF provides these services to more approximately 700 individuals daily in the City of Philadelphia.

Position Summary: 

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of SELF/UAC. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the organization’s financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition.

Reports To: 
President and Chief Operating Officer
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Consults with management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team and management to develop solutions, programs and policies.
  • Manages and assists with resolving complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Manages the full life cycle recruiting process
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on program restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Identifies training needs for program and individual executive coaching needs.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must exercise the utmost discretion and confidentiality in handling human resources, payroll, and HIPAA related issues;
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, culture, funder requirements, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR-related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • HR certification (PHR/SHRM-CP) credential or ability/desire to obtain certification within one year of employment
