Position Summary: 
• HIV tester provides direct health information, services and/or referrals through established face-to-face contact with individuals in non-traditional health care settings, during non-traditional hours within communities on street corners, in recreation centers, parks or targeted locations. The tester works towards establishing supportive and trusting relationships with members of the target population and when necessary, assumes an advocacy role on the client’s behalf. Tester will also assist the Area Leader (AL) to plan street outreach initiatives (engage people), recruit and provide STD counseling and/or talk about the STD prevention, importance of education, voting, employment, and being involved in the community.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
• Provide street outreach services including distribution of safer-sex packets, individualized counseling and referrals. Tester conducts STD screenings and HIV testing. • Must assist with outreach/engagement and recruitment of clients, including completing paperwork to qualify a client for screening, or other services related to the contract • Assist AL to develop and implement a plan of operations to conduct street outreach services including selection of outreach locations that are most productive for reaching the targeted population and designating the appropriate interventions and materials • Assist AL to develop and implement a plan to identify and link with relevant community agencies for client recruitment, material dissemination, referrals and networking. • Understand and comply with appropriate field safety protocol while engaging in outreach activities. • Maintain daily log detailing outreach activities.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
• High school diploma or equivalent • Possess minimum two (2) years experience in basic health education and training in providing HIV risk reduction activities and HIV counseling. • Completion of the AACO Regional HIV/AIDS Prevention Network Training and Certification Program or passing grade on Certification Program’s test within required time frames. • Completion of the AACO Outreach Intervention Specific Training within required time frames. • Experience working with, ability to speak the same language and within the same age range as the target population(s). • Knowledge about available community resources and ability to refer clients to them. • Demonstrate capacity to maintain appropriate documentation. • Possession of knowledge of issues related to safety, client engagement and professionalism. • Familiarity with neighborhoods in Philadelphia, able to work outside during winter, spring, summer, and fall • Comfortable talking to people that they do not know; must to be outgoing. • Strong commitment to educating the community about STD prevention, importance of education, voting, employment, and being involved in the community • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software. • Drivers license, regular access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation.
