Position Summary: 
The Financial Coach position offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to provide one-on-one personal financial coaching services through the [Partner Organization] program. Financial coaching services will be offered on-site to directors, staff, and caregivers of [brief description of child care centers]. Not to be confused with financial counselors who help address short-term problems and crises, financial coaches build a long-term, trusting relationship with clients and provide a structure for clients to identify their own goals and develop their own solutions. The primary roles of a financial coach are to 1) empower clients to set their own goals; 2) hold clients accountable to those goals; and 3) focus attention on long-term behavior change. This position is part of a new collaborative pilot program initiated by the Women’s Economic Security Initiative (WESI), a cross-sector network of local organizations seeking to improve the financial well-being of women experiencing economic insecurity in the Philadelphia region. As one of the first coaches hired through this pilot, the financial coach will be an independently motivated self-starter who will join a larger learning community and help this pilot grow, improve, and potentially expand.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
1. Financial Coaching  Develop and maintain meaningful, trusting personal relationships with active and potential clients  Practice effective communication and goal setting/coaching skills to interact with individuals in a respectful, nonjudgmental manner, keeping in mind the uniqueness of an individual’s attitudes, beliefs, and values regarding money  Coach, mentor, and motivate clients to identify their financial goals and to develop and implement the steps needed to achieve those goals  Become familiar with community resources and services so as to provide customers with referrals to other programs to achieve specific financial goals, such as home ownership, debt consolidation, and foreclosure prevention  Work collaboratively with other coaches throughout the Philadelphia region as needed.  Participate in a comprehensive financial coaching training program upon hire (including shadowing existing coaches) as well as ongoing training and professional development opportunities offered by [Partner Organization] and partners 2. Data Management and Reporting  Ensure completion and maintenance of all client intake forms, privacy documents and other paperwork as needed  Set aside a daily and weekly time to ensure that all data entry is current and complete  Maintain strict confidentiality of customer information, actions, and records 3. Client Recruitment & Outreach  Develop competency to deliver program related presentations, including program orientations and Mind Over Money workshops  Work with assigned centers to actively promote the program to potential clients (staff and caregivers) and create awareness about the program 4. Support Learning of Women’s Economic Security Initiative (WESI)  As part of a new WESI pilot initiative, play an active role in supporting and deepening WESI’s learning of how best to integrate financial coaching into existing services  Participate in WESI work group meetings as needed to share learnings and updates  Track and document lessons learned and ideas for program improvement
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
Required  Bachelor or Associate’s Degree required  Willing to work flexible hours so as to meet with clients at their preferred times  Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills  Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a client- or customer-facing role  Internet-savvy and able to use smartphone- and laptop-based financial coaching tools to enter data and support client Preferred  Reliable transportation, driver’s license, and good driving record strongly preferred  Some experience with and understanding of topics related to financial literacy, such as financial goal setting, budgeting, credit building/rebuilding, and asset development preferred (however, coaches will receive thorough training on these topics)  Spanish language fluency a plus Personal Qualities  Outgoing people-person with the ability to quickly form positive relationships  Demonstrated ability to connect, build trust, and interact effectively with individuals from all racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds  Highly organized and motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently  Flexible and adaptive with the willingness to learn new skills and techniques to ensure quality and successful client outcomes  Great listener and strong communicator with patience, creativity, and compassion  Preference given to candidates who have personal experience with financial insecurity
