Position Summary: 
Creative opportunity for an early childhood educator and/or early literacy specialist to implement the Literacy in Early Learning Spaces initiative at The Free Library of Philadelphia. This is a three-year, grant-funded, full-time position.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
 Essential Functions: 1. Provides technical assistance for early learning programs to enhance early literacy and language development; 2. Designs and presents professional development workshops focused on modeling best practices in early literacy for early childhood educators; 3. Assists in hosting class visits and family engagement opportunities at neighborhood libraries; 4. Cultivates and maintains partnerships with early learning programs, community organizations, and Free Library children’s librarians; 5. Visits early learning programs to assess needs and gather input from educators; 6. Designs and collaborates with early learning programs to host and/or lead special family literacy programs; 7. Connects early learning program staff to neighborhood resources as appropriate; 8. Gathers, maintains, and shares qualitative and quantitative data for grant reporting; 9. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Knowledge of Philadelphia’s early learning landscape and needs of early childhood educators; 2. Knowledge of early childhood development, early literacy, and children’s literature; 3. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and early language and literacy activities; 4. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; 5. Ability to present to groups; 6. Strong organizational skills; 7. Knowledge and ability to model research-based storytime techniques that promote early literacy skill development; 8. Ability to develop positive, productive relations with people in the community; 9. Ability and initiative to work independently;  10. Ability to travel to and from multiple early learning facilities within Philadelphia. Education & Experience: 1. Bachelor’s degree; 2. Early Childhood teaching experience preferred; 3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience; 4. Fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, or Cambodian is helpful.
More Details: 
Terms of Employment  Full Time (37 ½ hours per week)  Evenings, early mornings, and weekends as required.  Successful applicant must submit proof of required background clearances prior to hire date ((PA State Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, & Federal Criminal History Record).  This position has a full Benefit Package: Health, dental, life, and disability insurance; flex benefits and Retirement Plan; generous leave time allowance.
