Position Summary: 
The Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Program (YOACAP), a program partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) is currently recruiting Activities Leader Interns (ALI) to work with youths between ages of 12-17 years of age. The ALI will meet with youths daily and will develop a lesson plan to assist youth participants in learning about careers. The ALI will work at YOACAP’s Career Exposure Program at the: Tilden Middle School, 6601 Elmwood Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19142, beginning Monday, June 25, 2018 to Monday, August 13, 2018 from 9:30 am until 2:15 pm. YOACAP will hire five (5) Activities Leader Interns (ALI) which will make up the project team. The ALI will complete hands on activities within groups so youths will learn how to complete research, work in teams, and communicate with each other and other adults to learn about careers. Each ALI will work as a high teen leader to facilitate career exposure sessions for one of the following career tracks: 1) Building trades; 2) Law/Business/Elected Officials; 3) Medical; 4) IT/Game Design/ Engineering; and, 5) Art/Creative Writing/Journalism/Teaching. The ALI will complete activities to allow youths the opportunity to explore career opportunities and to determine if they have an interest in a specific career. The ALI will also help youths research education levels required for each career and what high school classes are needed to pursue a career. The ALI will also need to schedule at least one field trip per week to an organization that represents a career within their track to expose youths to an “actual” work environment. The ALI will focus their research on careers that are projected to have the most growth over the next 5-7 years. Each Activities Leader Interns (ALI) will receive a monthly stipend of $500 for the months of June, July and August. During the month of June, the ALI must be available to meet with the entire team at YOACAP’s offices located at 1211 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 each day from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm to prepare for the summer program.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
• Communicate with youths to increase their understanding of careers; • Coordinate youth activities to include hands on projects and research; • Meet with YOACAP supervisor to discuss daily progress; • Complete daily notes on youths and score their progress to reach their weekly benchmarks; • Visit at least one site per week that would highlight a career within their track; • Complete a final project with youth participants to showcase to family members and the community what they have learned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
• Must have a high school diploma and currently attends college or a university with a major relating to one of the five career tracks; • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.); • Must possess and/or complete the required federal clearances (criminal, child abuse, and fingerprinting). This is a requirement to work with youths; • Must have some experience interacting with youths and leading small groups 8-12 youths.
